When Should You Book Newborn Photos in Niceville, FL?

One of the most common questions expecting parents ask is, “When should I book newborn photos?”
The best time to book your newborn session is during pregnancy, usually in the second or early third trimester. You do not need to know your baby’s exact birth date. I pencil you in based on your due date, and once your baby arrives, we choose the actual session date.
When are newborn photos usually taken?
Newborn sessions are typically done between 5 and 21 days after birth.
During this window, babies are usually still very sleepy, curled up, and easier to gently pose. This is also when we can often capture those sweet, tiny newborn details like curled fingers, little toes, sleepy stretches, and peaceful wrapped portraits.
That does not mean your baby suddenly becomes “too old” after 21 days, but the session may look a little different. Older babies may be more alert, stretch out more, or need more time to settle.
Why not schedule the session before the baby is born?
Because babies come when they come.
Some arrive early, some arrive late, and some need a little extra time before they are ready for a session. Instead of choosing a firm date months in advance, I use your due date as a placeholder. Then, once baby is here, you contact me and we schedule the best available morning session.

What time are newborn sessions?
Newborn sessions are done at 10:00 AM.
Mornings tend to work best for babies, and it gives us plenty of time for feeding, soothing, sibling portraits, parent images, and baby-only setups without feeling rushed.
When booking online, please choose the 10:00 AM session. If you do not see availability or you are unsure what to pick, reach out through my contact page and I will be happy to help.
What if my baby is a boy and has been circumcised?
If your baby boy has been circumcised, we need to wait until he is fully healed before doing certain newborn poses. This is important for his comfort and safety.
Every baby heals differently, so please take that into account when planning your session. If you are unsure, just email me. I am happy to go over the timing with you and help decide what makes the most sense.
What if my baby comes early or late?
That is completely normal.
Once you book, your due date holds your general spot on my calendar. When your baby arrives, you simply let me know and we choose the best session date within the newborn window.
If your baby needs extra time in the hospital, has jaundice, has feeding concerns, or you are recovering from birth, please do not panic. We will adjust as needed.
When should you reach out?
The earlier, the better.
Because newborn sessions take several hours and are very hands-on, I only accept a limited number each month. Booking during pregnancy gives us the most flexibility and makes the process much less stressful after your baby arrives.
Ready to plan your newborn session?
If you are expecting and considering newborn portraits, I would love to talk with you. You can reach out during pregnancy, and we will plan around your due date.
